Paper Collages

Description
Following are examples of Artwork using the paper collage technique. Various types of paper, ranging from translucent tissue to handmade fibre paper are torn or cut, and glued onto a surface. When paper is wet, it becomes very weak, so the act of laying a 'rag' of paper onto another has to be very careful and deliberate, especially to avoid air bubbles and tearing. I find this technique very meditative, as it forces the Artist to be delicate and very patient. Moods and stories can be conveyed without representation or narrative, and this in itself, as a contrast to my other type of work, is liberating!

Maquettes
For large compositions, studies are carried out on a smaller scale. These studies are called 'maquettes', and facilitate the exploration of abstract expression in an unself conscious spontaneity. These 'maquettes', often no bigger than the size of a postcard, are used to engage In dialogues with the client, or even with other Artists. They are often the visual text that underpin an idea.
